For local people

Keep your community online.

Give whatever you can each month. It goes into a shared pot, and every £20 a month in the pot funds another community website. There is no need to find neighbours to split a bill.

Why it matters

A practical way to give back

Most community groups are run by volunteers with very little money and even less spare time. A good website helps people find them, join them and hire them. Your monthly amount helps make that possible.

Help people find them

Opening times, events, contact details and news, all in one place that is always up to date.

Take a load off volunteers

The group sends me one batch of changes a week and I do the rest. No logging in, no learning anything new.

See where it goes

Your money keeps real, live websites running, and the Our communities page shows which groups the pot has funded.

Small amounts count

Every pound goes in the pot

A £5 sponsor goes into the pot in just the same way as a £50 sponsor, and the amounts add up. When the pot has a spare £20 a month, another group's website is funded.

For example, four people giving £5 a month between them fund one whole community website.

Your credit, your choice

  • Listed on Our supporters, which every funded site links to
  • No say over what groups publish, and no obligations
How it works

Four steps to sponsoring

If you would like your support to lean towards a type of group or an area, say so. I will take it into account.

Tell me who you are

Send a short enquiry with the amount you have in mind and any preference for the kind of group.

Choose your credit

Decide whether to be listed by name, first name only or anonymously.

Set up payment

I send a secure link to set up your monthly payment by card, through Stripe. Set amounts are £5, £10, £20 and £50, and other amounts can be agreed. Stop at any time and payments stop.

Your money goes to work

Your payment goes into the pot, and each week I use the pot to fund the next group on the list.

Good to know

Straight answers

It is a sponsorship, not a donation. JW is not a charity, so Gift Aid does not apply. The money pays for websites to be built, hosted and kept up to date.

The pot is shared. I take your preference into account, but I cannot promise your money reaches one particular group.

No contract. Stop whenever you want. If the pot shrinks, sites that were already funded stay live for three months while I make up the difference.
