Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed: September 2026 · JW Community Websites, Jake Wells

1. My aim

I want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use screen readers, keyboards or voice control, people with low vision, and people who find busy pages hard to follow. I build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA as my standard.

What this statement is: an honest description of what I have done and where I know it falls short. I have not had the site formally audited by an outside body, so I do not claim full compliance.

2. What I have done

  • Pages use proper headings, landmarks and lists, so screen readers can move around them.
  • There is a "Skip to content" link at the top of every page.
  • Everything can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • The menu, the FAQ, the filters and the sponsor calculator work with a keyboard and announce changes to screen readers.
  • Forms have labels, and error and confirmation messages are written in plain language.
  • Illustrations are decorative, and are hidden from screen readers so they do not get in the way.
  • Text can be enlarged, and pages reflow to a narrow screen without sideways scrolling.
  • Animation is small, and it is switched off if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • The site is readable without JavaScript. The calculator and copy buttons need it, and simple alternatives are shown when it is off.

3. Known limits

  • Forms from other providers. Some application and enquiry forms are run by Tally, and card payments are handled by Stripe. I choose providers that take accessibility seriously, but I do not control how their pages work.
  • Colour contrast. I have checked text colours against their backgrounds, but a design with a bright green brand colour needs care. If any text is hard to read, please tell me.
  • Community group sites. Each site I build for a group is a separate website, and its accessibility depends partly on the content the group supplies, such as photos without descriptions. I ask for descriptions and help with them.

4. Tell me about a problem

If you find something you cannot use, or something that is hard to read or understand, please let me know. I would rather hear about it and fix it.

  • Email: jake@jwcommunitywebsites.co.uk
  • Phone: 07452 752398
  • Or use the contact form

Tell me the page, what you were trying to do, and, if you can, the device or assistive technology you use. I will reply personally, and if you need information in a different format, such as large print or an audio version, I will do my best to provide it.

5. If you are not happy with my reply

In the UK, the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) can advise you if you feel your concerns have not been dealt with properly. As a small business I am not a public body, but I take the same duty seriously.

6. Keeping this up to date

I review this statement whenever the site changes in a big way, and at least once a year.
